Teaching Philosophy

I sincerely believe that an educator's goal should be imparting knowledge to the students, not in a way that contributes to the exam-taking routine of regurgitating information, but one that shows the applicability of concepts to real-world situations. The ability for students to see that theories and concepts presented in the classroom have value outside that enclosure not only results in the retention of the information with which they are presented but also leads them to think about the environment they encounter and the information they are presented with daily. The ability to interact with course material is especially true in Communication Studies with its interdisciplinary nature and the reliance on concepts from psychology, law and policy, statistics, political science, and other curricula to strengthen its foundation.
